Legacy Liability
Ageing plant and obsolete equipment have to keep running while AI-based systems, digital hardware and new software are brought in alongside them. Each integration adds risk that nobody fully owns.
I diagnose what is straining your programme and give you clear recommendations on what to do about it, through conversation with you and due diligence sessions with your team.

Ageing plant and obsolete equipment have to keep running while AI-based systems, digital hardware and new software are brought in alongside them. Each integration adds risk that nobody fully owns.
Process, approvals and traceability requirements grow faster than the work they control. Engineers spend their time administering compliance instead of engineering, and decisions wait in queues.
Management expectations drift away from engineering reality. Technical debt builds, supply chains fragment and the people who hold critical knowledge leave. By the time it reaches a status report, it is already late.
The engineers usually know where the problem is. What is missing is an independent view that leadership will act on.
What this costs you
Budgets overrun while the cause is still being argued about.
Delivery dates and licensing or certification milestones slip.
Trust breaks down between leadership, engineering and the supply chain.
Regulatory enforcement and, at worst, the loss of your licence to operate.
I work through conversation with you and due diligence sessions with your team, and your people keep their own material and do the work.
My advisory service, Strategic Advisor, has three options:
An independent view of where a programme stands and what is straining it.
My involvement alongside you and your team while the roadmap is carried out.
An independent adviser on call for the decisions that follow.
The decisions stay with your people. What you get is my independent judgement on what is wrong and a practical roadmap to fix it.
These four principles shaped my judgement through years inside safety-critical engineering. Your engineering teams apply them in their work, and I use them to judge an operation as a whole, whether you run it or are considering buying it.
Defence in Depth
Defence in Depth taught me to ask what happens when the first line of protection fails. Applied to a business, it shows me how much rests on one supplier, one system or one person, and what that could cost you in a shutdown, a lost contract or a deal priced on the wrong assumptions.
Observability in Depth
Observability in Depth is about whether the people in charge can see what is really happening. It tells me whether your reports reflect the actual state of the work and, in due diligence, whether management's account of a business matches its engineering reality.
Safety by Design
Safety by Design rests on a simple fact: problems cost least when they are caught early. It lets me see which decisions are being left too late, where rework and regulatory delay are building up, and which of those costs a buyer is about to inherit.
Security by Design
Security by Design looks at the gaps new technology opens up. As digital systems, AI and connected equipment come into an operation, it tells me where security has fallen behind, before it holds up an approval, a contract, a sale or your licence to operate.
Tell me what you are trying to achieve and what is standing in the way, and we will start by agreeing what success looks like.
